This quote is a satirical reference to a famous advertisement from Brooke Bond Tea Company where a woman is seen serving tea to a group of men who are not particularly suited for such an activity. Brooke Bond Tea Company had previously advertised that their products were of “excellent quality, made by ladies for gentlemen.” The advertisement was ridiculed by many feminists as evidence of the rampant sexism of society. The author of this quote wanted to show her disdain for such comments and the misguided and sexist ideas that pervaded so much of history.
